Aloha Kakou ~
Join us First Friday March 4th for a special event with visiting Flamenco guitarist Tyson Kikuo Hussey March 4th from 7-9pm. In Tyson's words:
I grew up Pacific Northwest deeply involved in hip hop culture. At 18 after traveling to Romania and Italy I made my way to Guatemala and Mexico. I heard el maestro Paco de Lucia fell in love and have been entranced with flamenco ever since. My love for language and culture naturally evolved from hip hop to flamenco.
In my early twenties I moved to Spain to study flamenco guitar, i stayed for 8 years living, learning and loving all aspects of Spanish and Andalusian culture. In Granada I studied with paco and Miguel angel Cortes, Jaime " el parron" heredia, Alfredo tejada, and Juan habichuela nieto. In Sevilla I studied at la fundacion flamenco Cristina heeren learning under Raul cantizano, Jose de la tomasa, jeromo segura, Miguel Vargas and Esperanza Fernandez.
I was invited to move up to Barcelona to join a group called anarko flamenco directed by brazilian flamenco dancer Bernardo de barros formerly of famous flamenco/ hip hop fusion group ojos de brujo.I've played and performed in Spain and Pacific Northwest with with world renowned artists like Pedro Cortes, Jesus Montoya, Miguel angel Brito "el more", Carlos cascante, Jeff Busch and Carlos gajardo"el Indio". Flamenco is a way of living life and for me where the heart of my soul finds it's greatest depth of range and its freeest form of expression.
